Welcome to the Historic Sweetest Heart of Mary Catholic Church web site

When Polish immigrants came to America back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, they found comfort and community in their churches.Sweetest Heart of Mary Church was a cornerstone of the Polish community in Detroit. It remains a source of pride and a beacon of faith for Polish Americans in the metro Detroit area to this day.

With a long tradition of celebrating Polish customs, Hearts, as it is affectionately referred to, still connects its parishioners with the homeland of their ancestors. Our parish is an active one and we invite you to join us for Mass or for any of the many events thru out the year that honor our Polish roots.

Pierogi Fest 2011 Was A Hit!

Another successful Pierogi Festival is behind us and we are all grateful for decent weather. Thank you, Lord, for seeing to it that it didn't keep attendees away. Our volunteers went above and beyond their own comfort to see to it that we all had a great time. Bravo to them! This festival of ours just keeps getting bigger and better every year.

I only snapped a few pictures this year but Tony Ziebron was kind enough to photograph the event. Those pictures will be uploaded to the parish's Flickr account where you can view them.

I tasted all three varieties of pierogi and they were just as good as ever! Thanks to all the Pierogi-ites for making such delicious food for us. I wish I could have tasted one of those terrific chicken dinners I remember from past festivals but I got there too late and they were all sold out.

I was delighted to meet Fr. Darrell Roman, our cluster's new Administrator. I heard such nice things about him from everyone I spoke to. It was a pleasure to finally meet him.

I had a wonderful time at the 2011 Pierogi Fest and I'm already looking forward to next year's festival! I hope to see you there!
